What Size Stand Do You Need?
Every height below is measured floor to the top of the flowers, with the stand included. The five photographs are scaled to each other, so the difference you can see is the difference you get.
1.1m
Small
A kiosk, a market stall, a counter-top position, or indoors where a tall stand would block a walkway.
About shop-counter height.
1.3m
Medium
A clinic reception, a salon, a small shopfront. Reads clearly from the footpath without dominating a narrow entry.
Chest height on most adults.
1.4m
Mid-size
Reads from across a shopping-centre walkway and still fits either side of a standard shopfront door.
Shoulder height.
1.5m
Large
A restaurant entrance, a showroom, a wide shopfront. The step up when you want it to be obviously the biggest one there.
Eye level. Photographs well beside people.
1.8m
Most ordered
Our most ordered size, and the one people photograph. Still clears a standard 2.1m doorway upright.
Taller than almost everyone standing next to it.
Measure the doorway, not the room. A 1.8m stand on its tripod needs about 2.1m of clearance to be carried in upright and roughly a 70cm footprint on the ground. If the entry is glass-to-glass or there is a low awning, go 1.5m and it will still read as large.
Two matching stands beat one bigger one. At most Melbourne openings the stands go either side of the door, and a matching pair frames the entrance in a way a single stand can't. If you're the main sender, ask us about a pair before you size up.
Who Sends Opening Flowers?
What you are to the business decides the size more than the budget does. Family, landlords and head office send the tall ones; colleagues, neighbouring shops and clients send something mid-sized.
| Who you are | What's usually sent | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family of the ownerParents, siblings, spouse | The largest stand at the opening, very often as a matching pair either side of the door. | 1.5 – 1.8m | This is the one that ends up in the photos. |
| Business partner or co-founder | A large stand in the business's own colours where possible. | 1.5 – 1.8m | Ask us to match a brand colour. |
| Supplier or wholesalerThe most common sender of all | A 1.4m stand. Generous and visible, without competing with the family's. | 1.4m | If you supply many new stores, see multiple stands. |
| Landlord or centre management | A mid-to-large stand, usually delivered before the tenant arrives on the morning. | 1.4 – 1.5m | Often paired with a welcome card. |
| Franchisor to a new franchisee | A large stand in brand colours, frequently ordered as a standing arrangement for every new store. | 1.5 – 1.8m | We can hold your colour spec on file. |
| Neighbouring business | A modest stand. The gesture is the point — you're saying you're glad they're there. | 1.1 – 1.3m | Very common in strip shops and food courts. |
| Client or long-term customer | A small to mid stand, or a boxed arrangement if the space is tight. | 1.1 – 1.4m | Box works better in a small salon or clinic. |
| Agent, broker or consultantWhoever did the lease or the fit-out | A mid-size stand. | 1.3 – 1.4m | Quietly effective marketing. |
A busy opening might receive anywhere from two to a dozen stands, and more only ever looks better — a row outside a new shop reads as a business with backing. If you're worried yours will be lost among them, send a matching pair rather than one taller stand.
Opening your own shop? Plenty of owners order their own stands so the frontage isn't bare on day one, and a matching pair either side of the door photographs better than one tall stand. Everything on this page still applies — you'll just be the one on site to take delivery, which makes the timing easier rather than harder.
Getting The Timing Right
A stand does most of its work on the first morning, while people are photographing the shopfront. Order the day before and put the shop's opening time in the order notes.
Order By Then If You Can
Stands are built to order, and the tall ones take a florist the better part of an hour. Ordering the day before means we can build it fresh that morning and load it first.
Tell Us The Opening Time
Put the opening time, or any preferred delivery window, in the order notes at checkout. We route the day around what businesses have told us, and we'll get as close to it as the run allows.
Call Before You Order
If the stand has to be in place by a fixed hour — a ribbon-cutting, a landlord walkthrough, a media call — contact us before you order. We’ll tell you whether we can commit to that day rather than promise and miss.
A 1.8m stand can’t be left at an unattended shopfront — it is too visible and too easy to walk off with. Make sure someone will be on site to take it, and give us a mobile number for whoever that is. If the shop may not be open when we arrive, say so in the notes and we will call ahead rather than leave it.
Shopping Centres, Food Courts And Office Towers
A 1.8m stand is not a bouquet you leave at reception. Most of the difficulty in this job is the building, not the flowers.
Shopping Centres
Chadstone, Box Hill Central, Doncaster Westfield, Glen Waverley, Emporium, QV, Highpoint. Most require deliveries through a loading dock with a booking, and many restrict trolley access during trading hours. Give us the tenancy number and we'll deal with centre management.
Food Courts
Tight frontages and a lot of foot traffic. A 1.1m or 1.3m stand sits clear of the walkway; a 1.8m one usually can't stay where you want it. Send a photo of the frontage and we'll say which size fits.
Office Towers
Goods lifts, security sign-in, and a dock that often closes at 3pm. Building name, level, suite and a contact on site — with those we get it upstairs without a phone call to you.
Clinics & Medical Suites
Fragrance and pollen matter here. We'll build with low-pollen, low-scent stems and keep the footprint clear of a wheelchair path.
Street-Front Shops
A shop that opens straight onto the street is the easiest of the lot, and where a matching pair either side of the door looks best. Watch for the footpath trading rules some councils apply — the stand needs to sit inside the shop's frontage line.
Warehouses & Showrooms
Big spaces swallow small stands. In an open warehouse or a car showroom go 1.8m, or send two — 1.4m disappears against that ceiling height.
The Stand Is Included — There’s Nothing To Return
The stand is included in the price and it stays with the business. No deposit, nothing to send back, no deadline.
How ours works
- The stand is part of the price. You are not hiring it.
- No deposit to pay and none to chase up afterwards.
- Nothing to return, no form, no email chain, no deadline.
- It’s yours — keep it for the next launch, or dispose of the frame once the flowers are done.
What to check on other quotes
Some Melbourne florists hold a refundable deposit on the stand and ask you to email them to arrange its return inside ten days. Others list it as “stand hire” without saying what happens afterwards.
So when you compare quotes, check whether the price includes the stand or holds a deposit against it. Ours includes it.
Sending Several Stands, Or Sending Often
Businesses don't open often, but some businesses send to openings constantly — franchise head offices, shopping-centre management, wholesalers whose stockists keep opening, leasing agents and brokers. Here is how multiples, brand colours and invoicing work for them.
Several Stands, One Order
Multiple stands to one address for the same opening, or to several addresses on the same day. One order, one invoice, delivered together.
Your Colours On File
Send us a brand colour or a photo once and we'll hold the spec, so every future stand matches without you re-explaining it.
Tax Invoice & ABN
Proper tax invoice with our ABN and yours, and a purchase order reference if your accounts team needs one. Regular senders can be set up on account.
Which Colours Work For An Opening
Opening flowers are the one occasion where louder is better. This is not a bouquet — it's signage, and it has to read from the far side of the footpath.
Red & Gold
The traditional choice and still the most requested, particularly for Chinese, Vietnamese and Malaysian-owned businesses. Red for good fortune, gold for prosperity. Reads strongly in photographs and against almost any shopfront.
Sunflowers & Yellow
Bright, warm and cheap to read from a distance. Sunflowers are the single most photogenic opening flower we use, and they hold up in a hot shopfront better than most.
Pink & Coral
Salons, beauty clinics, cafés, boutiques. Softer without being quiet. Gerberas do the heavy lifting here.
Blue & White
Professional services, medical, tech, showrooms. Cooler and more corporate, and it sits well next to signage that isn't warm-toned.
Orange & Champagne
Sunflowers with orange, peach and champagne roses. Warmer than red without being loud, and it holds its own against the timber, brick and painted frontages that most Melbourne strips are made of.
Your Brand Colours
Send us a logo or a photo of the shopfront and we'll build to it. This is the version that ends up on the business's own social media, because it looks like it belongs there.
White-and-green on its own. It's beautiful, and in an Australian context it reads as sympathy rather than celebration — several people at the opening will quietly notice. If you want something restrained, ask for white with gold or with a strong accent colour rather than white and foliage alone.

Grand Opening Flowers — Your Questions
How tall is a grand opening flower stand?
Ours run from 1.1m to 1.8m including the stand. 1.8m is the most ordered and is the size sent by family, landlords and major suppliers; 1.4m is the mid-size that fits either side of a standard shopfront door. A 1.8m stand needs about 2.1m of doorway clearance to carry in upright and roughly a 70cm footprint.
Do I need to return the stand?
No. The stand is included in the price and is yours to keep — there is no deposit to pay, nothing to send back and no deadline to remember. Some Melbourne florists hold a refundable deposit and ask you to arrange the return yourself; we do not.
Can I choose what time grand opening flowers are delivered?
Put the opening time or a preferred window in the order notes at checkout and we will get as close to it as the run allows. If it has to be in place by a fixed hour — a ribbon-cutting or a landlord walkthrough — contact us before you order so we can confirm rather than promise and miss. Someone needs to be on site to receive it.
How many opening flower stands should we send?
One is completely normal. If you're family, a business partner or the main supplier, a matching pair either side of the door frames the entrance and photographs better than one taller stand. A busy opening often receives anywhere from two to a dozen in total.
Can I order several stands to different addresses?
Yes. Multiple stands to one opening or across several addresses on the same day, on one order and one invoice. If you send opening flowers regularly — as a supplier, franchisor or landlord — we can hold your brand colours on file and set you up on account.
Can you deliver into a shopping centre?
Yes, and it's a large part of what we do — Chadstone, Box Hill Central, Doncaster, Glen Waverley, Emporium, QV and Highpoint among others. Most centres need dock access and a booking. Give us the tenancy number and we'll deal with centre management directly.
What size stand fits a food court or a small shopfront?
1.1m or 1.3m. Food courts have tight frontages and heavy foot traffic, and a 1.8m stand usually can't stay where you'd want it. Send us a photo of the frontage if you're unsure.
Can you match our brand colours?
Yes. Send a logo, a colour code or a photo of the shopfront. Brand-matched stands are the ones that end up on the business's own social media, because they look like they belong to the shop rather than just standing in front of it.
How far in advance should I order grand opening flowers?
The day before is ideal — stands are built to order and the tall ones take close to an hour each. Same-day is usually possible if you order before 12pm Monday to Saturday, but for a guaranteed a set delivery time, or for several stands, give us a day.
What flowers last best in a shopfront?
Gerberas, carnations, chrysanthemums and orchids all hold up well in a warm, bright space. Orchids last longest and read as the most premium. Roses look beautiful on day one but soften fastest under shop lighting, so we build them with sturdier stems around them.
Do you deliver grand opening flowers on Sundays and public holidays?
By arrangement — a lot of Melbourne businesses open on a weekend deliberately. Contact us as early as you can so we can build and route it properly.
Not Sure What Size To Send?
Send us a photo of the shopfront and tell us your relationship to the business. We'll tell you what size works and what time it needs to be there.
