Finding the Right Graduation Flowers
Most of our graduation orders come from three groups of people. Here's what each one usually goes for.
For Your Child
A larger statement bouquet that holds up across hours of photos with family, friends, and grandparents. Mixed pastels and classic whites photograph beautifully against academic gowns. Most parents spend between $120 and $200 — the bouquet your graduate carries in every photo is worth getting right.
Statement bouquets →For Your Partner
Something between romantic and celebratory — not pure red-rose territory, not a corporate arrangement either. Soft pinks, peaches, and whites with a few statement blooms strike the right tone. Comfortable to hold during a long ceremony, and easy to photograph in close-ups together.
$100 – $150 picks →For a Friend
A neat hand-tied posy that looks generous without breaking your budget. Easy to carry around campus afterwards, easy to add to group photos. Most students spend $60–$100 per bouquet — and ordering two or three at once is common when a whole friend group is graduating together.
Under $100 →What Each Bloom Says
A handful of stems most commonly used in our Melbourne graduation bouquets — and what they quietly say to the graduate.
Red Roses
Deep respect, admiration, pride. The classic choice for graduations across Melbourne — especially for partners, parents, or anyone who watched the long nights of study.
Sunflowers
Achievement, ambition, the sun rising on a new chapter. Bold and high-energy — they photograph beautifully against academic gowns.
White Lilies
Purity of accomplishment and a hopeful future. Often chosen for postgraduate and PhD ceremonies where the milestone carries weight.
Carnations
Pride and fascination. A graceful, longer-lasting stem that fills out a bouquet without overpowering it. Pink carnations specifically convey gratitude.
Baby's Breath (Gypsophila)
Everlasting love and innocence. Pairs with almost every focal flower and softens the visual weight of a hand bouquet for ceremony photos.
Preserved Roses
A lasting memory of the day. These stay vibrant for years — increasingly popular as graduation keepsakes for international students sending blooms home.

Graduation Flower FAQs
Can you deliver directly to the ceremony venue?
Yes. We deliver to all major Melbourne graduation venues — the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Recital Centre, Flemington Racecourse, and on-campus ceremonies at most universities.
For venue delivery, please include the graduate's full name, the ceremony start time, and the name of the university on your order. We'll coordinate with venue staff so the bouquet is ready at the graduate registration or photography area — not handed to them mid-ceremony.
I'm overseas — can I order flowers for my child's graduation in Melbourne?
Of course. A large portion of our graduation orders come from parents based overseas — China, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere. You can order from anywhere in the world using an international card, and we'll handle everything on the Melbourne end.
If you'd like the graduate to know in advance (rather than be surprised at the venue), we can also deliver to their address the morning of, with a handwritten card from you. Just let us know in the order notes.
It's already after 12 PM and I forgot — what can I do?
Call our store directly on 03 9191 3999 (Box Hill) or 03 9191 6636 (Melbourne Central). If our florists can fit your order in, we'll do it. Late same-day orders aren't guaranteed online, but we often make it work with a phone call — especially if you can collect in-store yourself.
How big should the bouquet be?
Two things to think about: how long the graduate will carry it, and how it'll look in photos.
For ceremonies that run two hours or more, a medium hand-tied bouquet ($100–$150) is the sweet spot — full enough to photograph well, light enough not to become awkward. Statement bouquets ($150+) look incredible in the family portrait but are heavier to hold. If the graduate has small hands or wears glasses, lean lighter.
Can I order several bouquets for a group of graduating friends?
Yes — group orders are common in May and December. Place each bouquet as a separate order so the cards stay personal, or message us first and we'll bundle them under one delivery to save on fees. Our under-$100 graduation bouquets are the most popular choice for friend groups.
What flowers last longest after the ceremony?
Fresh bouquets stay vivid for around 5–7 days with proper care (trim stems daily, change water every 2 days). If the graduate wants something they can keep for years, our preserved flower arrangements and dried flower pieces are a beautiful alternative — many of our graduates display them on their first office desk or in a new apartment as a reminder of the day.
Can I collect graduation flowers in-store before the ceremony?
Yes — this is what most local parents and partners do. Pick up from H Flowers Melbourne Central or Box Hill Central (full addresses and store hours on our contact page). Order online and leave a note with your preferred pickup time, or call ahead.
